Blackpool Model Village and Gardens are in a two and a half acre landscaped area adjacent to Stanley Park and near to the Zoo. The award winning attraction was built in the 1960’s and the picturesque buildings and figures are hand crafted, including a Scottish Castle, Cornish Village, thatched cottages, church, fun fair and cricket match. There is a tram, two railways, and a waterwheel. Some of the exhibits have motorised moving parts. The garden itself has various beautiful species of trees, plants and flowers, and there are ponds and streams as well as a waterfall. Events are held throughout the year, such as Pirate Treasure Trail, Spot the mole Competition and invasion of the Gnomes. There are coffee and gift shops, with picnic boxes also being on sale. Opening period in 2008 is from 15th March to November 2nd. The model village and gardens are open daily from 10 am until dusk, assuming acceptable weather conditions.
