Blackpool south shore is a well known part of the resort and contains a number of holiday entertainments. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the most popular tourist attraction in the Uk with around 5.5 million visitors annually. It has numerous rides, as well as shows, cafes, restaurants, a pub and a hotel.
South shore also includes the award winning Blackpool Sandcastle Waterworld - the biggest indoor waterpark in the country. The Sandcastle is built on the site of the old South Shore Open air Baths which at their opening in 1923 were the largest of their kind in the world, and were demolished in 1983. South Shore is home to Blackpool Airport and a railway station. There is a casino as well as Blackpool South Pier which has rides and amusements. At under 430 feet long, South pier is shorter than the other two but is wider, allowing it to be used for orchestral performances. Waterloo road is a busy all year round shopping centre with retail outlets of many different kinds.
The Great Promenade Show which was created in 1996, is an outdoor exhibition consisting of ten sculptures themed on Blackpool (for example the illuminations), including the largest rotating mirrorball in the world. Also in South Shore are the scenic coastal sand dunes.
