Blackpool illuminations 2010 will begin on Friday September 3rd and will be switched on by Robbie Williams. The lights will continue for 66 nights until November 7th. There will be a switch on concert featuring star performers including singer Alesha Dixon and this will be held in the switch on arena behind Blackpool sea life centre. Other stars due to appear at the concert include Russell Watson, The Wanted, and Olly Murs. The concert will be broadcast live from 8pm on radio and the switch on will take place at 9pm. The concert is free and entry is by ticket. Details of admission tickets will be publicised on smooth radio and real radio and will be available on the visit Lancashire website from Tuesday. By the middle of august nearly eighty four thousand tickets had been applied for, and this was over five times the number of tickets that are available. The switch on arena will be open from four o’clock in the afternoon with entertainment commencing at six pm. The concert will also be shown on a big screen on Blackpool promenade and will be broadcast live from 8pm on Real and Smooth Radio. As anticipated the switch on concert was a tremendous success and record numbers of people attended the event. Over fifteen thousand people were in the switch on arena and a crowd of twenty thousand saw it on the big screens the organisers set up on Blackpool promenade. Other innovative features for Blackpool illuminations 2010 include Glampire designed by Laurence Llewelyn Bowen which represents a combination of glamour and vampire themes. Dino doom on Bispham cliffs is a new tableau depicting a dinosaur theme. The Ghoulish History tableau shows Blackpool’s heritage and history and depicts ghost stories associated with the resort. The 2010 goldwing light parade in Blackpool will take place between 8.pm. and 9.pm.on Saturday 4th September
The world fireworks championships will be held over the weekend of 10th September to 12th September 2010 on Blackpool promenade. The three consecutive nights, Friday Saturday and Sunday will feature the winners of previous competitions in a champion of champions contest. The displays will be presented on the beach between south and central piers. The build up to each display will start about seven thirty in the evening and the fireworks will commence around eight thirty, weather permitting. The Friday display features San Tai of Taiwan, Saturday will be Feerie from France, and on Sunday it will be DW Fireworks of Canada.
